Auditory Training with an iPod TouchThis is a featured page

Here are some favorite apps and ideas to develop auditory and language skills with students!

  • Add Lyrics to songs. Students enjoy listening to music but struggle to understand the words. http://www.elyrics.net is one of the many sites. Find the lyrics, and then add them through iTunes.
    • Copy the lyrics to a song in your iTunes Library
    • in iTunes Highlight the song
    • Click on File
    • Drop down to Get Info
    • Click on the Lyrics tab
    • Paste the lyrics into that screen.
    • Sync the iPod
    • The lyrics will now appear on the iPod
  • NOTE: If you are using song lyrics for language development- remember to always preview the song lyrics!
  • Lit2Go: Search literature by reading level, title or author. Download the literature into iTunes and the words will show on the screen as students listen to an mp4 of the selection. You can also print the document from the site.
  • iSay Free: An app that is a throwback to the old Simon game!
  • Melody Match Lite: an app where students match a variety of sounds. Looks like a card memory game.
  • TapTap revenge: looks like guitar hero. Have to tap the screen in time to the music.
  • Player Piano Free: learn songs on a keyboard. Listen to tones and follow the notes
  • Whitenoise: variety of background sounds. Can use to learn environmental sounds or to make auditory training tasks more difficult with added background noise.
  • Tapme: variety sounds from drums, to guitars, to silly voices- can copy rhythms and record your creation.
  • Pettheanimals: Animals make their "traditional sound". When you "pet them" they make happy sounds!
  • Vocalzoo: pictures of animals. When you tap them they make their sound.
  • SigningTime: Basic sign vocabulary flashcards. Shows picture of sign as well as a short video clip.
  • ListenListen Game: choose from a variety of sounds ( cartoons, musical instruments, piano notes, horn notes or bass notes) touch the dots that make the same sound.
  • Babyapps: Within this app- there are a variety of activities. Animal sounds, piano keyboard that teaches colors as well as sounds, and matching an auditory direction. ( touch the circle etc)
  • WeetWoot: This app is simply amazing. Kid safe youtube videos on a huge range of topics!

There are TONS of activities that you can download to any video-enabled MP3 player (e.g., iPod Touch, video iPod, Zune). http://www.hearingjourney.com/listening_room/

It is free to register but registration is required.

Enjoy!
